DUCATI FTR.VECTOR

A modern Ducati café racer built around the air-cooled Hypermotard 1100 EVO engine — combining classic mechanical character with modern design and fabrication.

FTR.VECTOR is my latest full custom motorcycle project and the next evolution of what I started with the Futuri 900CR and developed further with the Ducati Desmoto.

The project combines extensive frame and chassis modifications with custom bodywork, electronics, 3D-printed components and a completely hand-fabricated exhaust system. As with my previous builds, the aim is not simply to modify an existing motorcycle, but to design the complete machine as one cohesive package.

FTR.VECTOR is currently under development. Follow the build below as the project takes shape.

BUILD IN PROGRESS

EXHAUST 2/3 DONE!

The hardest part of the exhaust is done! Made the collector going from 2x 45mm to 1x 50.8mm. Flow calculations indicate this will work perfectly.

I cannot continue routing the exhaust any further than this since I first need to have fairings and a subframe. Otherwise there is a large chance I end up with an exhaust run that just doesnt look right.

Interesting the bike has a compeltely different look compared from the right and left side. I personally really like that. Also really dig the very snug fit around the engine!!

BRAKE LINES AND RESERVOIRS + MIRRORS

Time to work on some small details of the bike. I am using Tygon 2375 tubing as the brake fluid reservoirs, capped off with custom made aluminium caps.

For the rear brake cylinder I needed to get abit creative routing the hose, but it turned out just fine.

Also ordered custom Hell brake lines and fitted bar-end mirrors. Starting to take shape!

EXHAUST 1/3 DONE

About 1/3 of the exhaust is done. Extremely tight around the vertical cylinder but it all fits nicely together! And yes, I fell into the trap of building another complete pie-cut exhaust 😅

A ridiculous amount of work, but it gives you the freedom to create angles and curves that would otherwise be nearly impossible. Whether you love or hate the pie-cut look, there’s no denying the freedom it gives you when fabricating a completely custom exhaust.

The inspiration wasn’t really flowing for the last few months, but lately the ideas have started coming back. Glad to be in the workshop again, just building cool bikes—or at least bikes that I think are cool.

CRANKCASE BREATHER MODIFICATION

Since the exhaust at the vertical cylinder will be so tight the current CNC Racing crankcase breather would not be able to have a hose fitted… This is because the hose fitting on this breather is located off center.

No problem! If the breather could be rotated then the issue would be solved. So I turned down the outside mounting tab of the breather and constructed a custom hold down bracket. Now the breather can be mounted any way that fits the build.

PLANNING THE EXHAUST RUNS

Time to start planning the exhaust runs on the right side of the bike. I am using my custom designed 3D printed pie cut mockup system to fully plan the whole thing. This way I do not have to weld and cut anything and make minor changes until I am completely happy with the looks.

This late night shot got the juices flowing and gave me the inspiration to move forward!

SMALL PROGRESS UPDATE

A small project update! Wanted to test fit the carbon rear wheel cover. Allot of people do not like the looks. Don’t worry, I think with all he custom fairings this will look sick!

Also finished some small tasks like a modified side stand and custom Discacciati rear brake cylinder / rearset mount. A special one is the custom camshaft cover radiator mount, this allows the mounting of the triangle Ducati oil coolers to an air cooled 1000/1100 engine. Printed out of Nylon Carbon fiber, probably even stronger than the OEM stuff.

And I finished up the custom oil lines with AN6 fittings. I needed to figure something out for the oil pressure switch since the stock position will interfere with the exhaust runs later on. So I used a AN6 splitter that allows the oil pressure switch to be mounted directly to the oil lines. Slick solution in my opinion.

VERTICAL EXHAUST HEADER

Uhmmm ok, the Öhlins TTX shock I had stocked for this project is not going to fit haha. The exhaust port of the vertical head is literally at the same spot as the adjustment knobs of the TTX shock.

Let’s solve that! I switched to a default Showa rear shock from a 1098 allowing me SOME space to make an exhaust bend. Using my custom pie-cut mockup pieces I was able to plan out an exhaust run that will work perfectly with no room to spare.

Solved!

LETS START BUILDING!

Time to start shaping this new project! The Ducati Desmoto project is now finished so my attention has moved to this project now.

Lets start building up the frame and engine to see what we have..

CARBON REAR WHEEL DISC

Received this carbon rear wheel disc from my new friend @_vengine_ (thanks Adrian!). Its mounted replacing the spacer ring where the rear wheel nut is mounted on. Clever solution!

Looks really cool in my opinion, but needs the right bike for it. Most people I show this setup are not convinced. I think with this project I can get the right looks for this to work.

Not 100% sure yet if I will be using this on this poject, but wanted to show it anyway.

GATHERING SOME PARTS

Been gathering some parts in the same time while working on the Desmoto project. Step by step gathering everything I need to build a complete custom bike haha.

  • Got the rear wheel chemically stripped. Now ready to be painted in a later stage when the project is further along.
  • Received 2 rough carbon Termignoni 916 exhaust tubes with beaten up internals (thanks Toine!). I will be using these to build a short custom underseat exhaust.
  • Clip-on risers together with carbon clip-ons and Renthal grips
  • Mosfet rectifier
  • 1000/1100DS throttle bodies from my Swedish friend Alexandre . I still needed to source these since my EVO engine didnt have these yet.
  • Oil cooler with braided oil lines and AN6 fittings.
  • Motogadget Motoscope Pro dashboard and Motogadget Mo-Lock
  • Hypermotard Velocity stack kit, to get even more power out of the 1100 EVO engine. 5 exta HP on the rear wheel.
  • Ducati 848 triple tree with steering damper
  • IAW59M ECU from my Hypermotard 1100, replaced it with another one that came with the Termignoni exhaust kit.
  • Ducati 1098 frame and swingarm (send off to be chemically stripped)

ENGINE ALL DONE!

FTR04, Hyper 1100 EVO engine finished! So it will be sitting for a while and used after I finish the Desmoto project. Living in my living room for the next 2 years haha

Nothing to special internal wise, and it doesnt look that extreme. But damn it looks newer then new and slick!

  • While building the other race engines I ordered and prepped some parts on the side to get this engine done.
  • Tuned/flowed heads
  • Glass bead blasted engine cases/cylinders/heads
  • Cerakoted engine covers in black
  • 900gr lightweight flywheel
  • Ducabike clutch assembly and cover
  • CNC racing crankcase breather
  • Stock 48-2 timing gear instead of the original EVO gears (will be running this on a IAW5 ECU)
  • Stock 1100 pistons
  • All new 304 stainless bolts everywhere (yes with ceramic grease)

Expecting a conservative 105HP at the rear wheel with this engine.

START REBUILDING THE ENGINE

Time to start rebuilding the engine. Everything brand new and its a joy to work with all clean and “new” parts.

A “gift” from one of my best friends Toine van den Biggelaar ❤. The engine was pretty rough originally and missing some parts.. Looked like it had been sitting outside in the rain.

BRAKING BEAUTY

While building our race bikes for Project Venom Racing we are equiping all of them with Discacciati braking parts. Why not do the same for this project?

Used by many racing teams, and the quality/service is amazing!

GATHERING PARTS

While working at Biggelaar Performance, building race bikes for Project Venom Racing and my own Desmoto project im coming across parts i out aside for this project. Also buying in bulk while buying for multiple projects helps.

So here is some stuff i have already put aside. Moto-Master WSBK full floating T floater discs, CNC racing crankcase breather, Brembo P4 radial calipers from a Aprillia, Ducati 1098 front fork with black DLC coating and Ducabike clutch goodies.

Already see the theme of the bike? Jup, BLACK! Not sure on the accent color yet. Probably yellow/orange haha.

BREAKING DOWN THE ENGINE

Lets break down the engine to get everything looking good again! This engine looks like it has been in the rain or in the wet for some time. No worries, everything will be build back up like better then new.

Its a 1100EVO engine from a Hypermotard. To bad its not a DS engine. Offcourse i can change/convert the heads but i wont be spending a fortune on this project. So this is fine for now :).

Everything is off to get chemically stripped, glass bead blasted and cerakoted. In the meanwhile the heads will be tuned/flowed to achieve abit more power in the end ;). Expected 105HP on the rear wheel.
